Mary E. Hotnisky, 62, Alexandria, Va., died Saturday in Arlington, Va.
She was born in Williamsburg, daughter of the late Ralph E. and Erma (Dick) Detwiler. She married Gary R. Hotnisky on May 18, 1974, in Williamsburg.
Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Sarah E. Hotnisky (Mark A. Thompson) of Smyrna, Tenn.; a son, Christopher R. of Alexandria, Va.; a grandson, Brady A. Thompson of Smyrna; four sisters: Lois Williams, Naomi Detwiler, Eva Mae Zelem and Susan Geist; 10 nieces and nephews; and 12 great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Hopper; and a brother, James Detwiler.
Mary was a 1969 graduate of Central High School. She started her career as a teaching assistant in special education preschool in 1985. She also served as a Girl Scout Daisy leader from 1986-2007. She was a member of Fairview Church of the Brethren, Williamsburg, and loved spending time with her grandson, Brady.
Friends will be received from 1 until the 3 p.m. funeral service Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at Fairview Church of the Brethren, Pastor Lee Saylor officiating. Interment will be made in Shelleytown Cemetery, Williamsburg.
