Ruth N. Carr, 87, formerly of Bellwood, passed away peacefully Thursday morning at the home of her son.
She was born in Bellwood, daughter of the late Percy C. and Mary Elizabeth (Myers) Messner. She married Ralph W. Carr on June 12, 1948, in Bellwood, and he died Nov. 14, 1994.
Surviving are a son, Ralph R. "Chip" and wife, Kim, of Duncansville; a granddaughter, Sarah; two brothers: Kay D. of Bellwood and Ray R. of Altoona; and three sisters: Margie Messner and Madeline "Maddy" Berkstresser, both of Bellwood, and Marian "Mitzi" Shuster in New Jersey.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: Curtis and Robert "Mack" Messner; and a sister, Elizabeth Nagle.
Ruth was a 1943 graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School and a 1947 graduate of Altoona Hospital School of Nursing. She retired as a registered nurse for Drs. Stoker and Dietrick and was a former night supervisor at Altoona Hospital. She was a life member of Logan Valley Presbyterian Church, Bellwood, where she served as an ordained elder and was a member of the church choir. She was also a member of Altoona Hospital Nursing Association and past president of United Presbyterian Homes Auxiliary.
Ruth enjoyed traveling with her husband, Ralph, sewing and baking. She also enjoyed bowling and archery, and she was a lifelong caregiver.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, the Rev. Charles Curley officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township.
