Joseph L. Baker, 79, Duncansville, died Thursday evening at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Herbert D. and Helene G. (Marks) Baker. He married Dolores A. Wineland on March 27, 1953, in Cumberland, Md.
Surviving are his wife, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage; three daughters: Susanna Piper, Connie Appleyard and husband, Lynn and Brenda Harpster and husband, Daniel; three sons: Stephen S. and friend, Missey and twins, Kevin and Keith and wife, Ellen; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Kathryn Dutil, Rose Smith and Edna Yingling.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Megan Appleyard; a great-grandson, Andrew Michael Hecker; and a sister, Maryann Hakala.
Mr. Baker was a 1951 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. He retired from Conrail as a conductor in 1998 with 47 years of service. He attended St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Duncansville.
Joseph enjoyed his family, auctions and tractors and was a mentor to all he met.
Friends will be received from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 23, 2013, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, officiated by Monsignor Robert J. Saly.
Committal will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
