Betty J. Dick, 90, Big Cove Tannery, formerly of Roaring Spring, died peacefully Friday morning at the home of her grandson, Tony, in Hagerstown, Md.
She was born near Knobsville, Fulton County, daughter of the late D. Wilbert and M. Ruth (Wagner) Helman. She married Donald S. Dick on July 31, 1948, in Roaring Spring, and he died Nov. 14, 2005.
Surviving are a daughter, Carolyn Hedges and husband, James, of Big Cove Tannery; three grandchildren: Tony Howell of Hagerstown, Md., Kelly Howell of McConnellsburg, and Susanne Ketterman of Biglerville; and two great-grandchildren: Tyler Bohrer and Jenna Howell.
Betty was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother: Olive, Helen, Ora and Robert.
She was a 1940 graduate of Hustontown High School and a 1944 graduate of the Altoona Hospital School of Nursing. She retired from Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring, as a registered nurse, after 40 years of service. A member of the First Church of the Brethren, Roaring Spring, Betty enjoyed spending time with her family.
Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2013, at Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at First Church of the Brethren, Roaring Spring, Pastor Joe Surin officiating. Interment will be made in Greenlawn Cemetery, Roaring Spring.
