John M. Finochio, 86, Altoona, passed away Monday at Altoona Regional.
He was born in Altoona, son of Nichola and Mary Finochio. He married Geraldine Guida, and she died July 19, 1982.
Surviving are two daughters: Nancy Kanzleiter (Lou) of State College and Toni Weyandt (Mick) of Altoona; two sons: Mike (Debra) of Altoona and Patrick (Bonnie) in Saudi Arabia; and eight grandchildren: Scott Finochio, Reese Gardner, Jordan Bickel, Amanda Hetrick and Taylor, Alec, Vincent and Nicholas Finochio.
He was preceded in death by a son, John W., in 1974.
John was a graduate of Altoona High School and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as an electrician's mate second class. He retired as a truck driver for Railway Express Agency and Ward Trucking Co. with a total of 45 years of service. He attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and was a member of Fort Apache VFW, where he served as post senior vice commander.
John enjoyed gardening and cooking.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2013, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
