The Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School girls basketball team's next step in what it hopes will lead to Hershey and a PIAA Class A championship will take it to Indiana Area High School on Wednesday night, the PIAA announced on Sunday.
The District 6 champion Lady Marauders will be taking on Serra Catholic, the WPIAL runner-up. Tipoff for the second round game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Guilfoyle carries a 25-2 record into the contest. Serra is 24-3.
Two boys teams from the Mirror coverage area also will be in action in the second round. The District 6 Class A runner-up Bishop Carroll boys (22-5) meet up with District 7 champion Vincentian (26-1) on Tuesday night at Hempfield High School in Greensburg at 5 p.m. - the Huskies are the only team to have beaten Vincentian this year. That is the first game in a tripleheader that has the Johnstown boys facing Chartiers Valley in Class AAA action at 8 p.m.
Northern Cambria (22-5) will attempt to punch its ticket into the Class AA boys quarterfinals on Wednesday against another regional team, Conemaugh Township (24-3), at the Richland High School Sports Center in Johnstown at 7 p.m.
In other second round games involving District 6 teams on Wednesday, the District 6 Class AAA champion Forest Hills girls travel to Hempfield to play Blackhawk at 7:30 p.m., and the District 6 Class AA consolation winner Bishop McCort boys are at Clarion University's Tippin Gymnasium for a 7:30 tipoff with District 10 champ West Middlesex.
Four other District 5 teams still are alive, as well. On Tuesday Shade boys trek to Bald Eagle Area High School where they'll meet District 9's Johnsonburg in a clash of District champions at 7 p.m.
All three Class A girls teams from District 5 also made it through the first round and will return to action on Wednesday night. The Conemaugh Township girls meet Clarion at 6 p.m. at Indiana High, the Southern Fulton girls face Halifax at 6 at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg, and the Berlin Brothersvalley girls take on WPIAL champ Vincentian at Greensburg Hempfield at 6.
