Obama hurting US

February 14, 2013
The Altoona Mirror

Once again, Pennsylvania's 67 counties were swept into the blue-state column by 13 counties that voted for President Barack Obama.

What am I missing here?

What do the people in these 13 counties know that I don't know or am overlooking? Being a Republican all my life, I have in most elections split my ticket and voted for the person who I believed would uphold the Constitution and the rule of law.

When Obama was a candidate in 2008, I reviewed his Senate voting record and found it to be extremely flawed. His position on abortion represented a culture of death and many of his statements and associations reflected an anti-capitalist, left-wing agenda.

I was dismayed that he was elected in 2008. And when he selected his Cabinet and appointed government czars, reviewing their bios revealed a socialist progressive agenda. This platform revealed itself in the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), which passed without one Republican vote.

If you take the time to learn about Obamacare, you will find that it severely limits your health care freedoms and imposes a multitude of new taxes on our economic system.

This president over the last four years has not proposed any budgets, run up deficits of more than a trillion dollars per year and continues to propose new spending and more taxes.

It's apparent that he wants to substantially increase the size of government in lieu of private-sector growth through tax-code reform and lower taxes.

What is emerging from all the government spending is a privileged class living on government debt and a working class becoming more dependent on food stamps, unemployment compensation, disability and welfare, not to mention a reduction in working hours due to Obamacare.

My message to the people in the 13 counties is to embrace life and W-2 income, which built this country and the middle class, and quit relying on government handouts, which will never enable you to realize the American dream.

Look around the world at the socialist countries that embraced this nanny state mentality and take note.
