Bald Eagle Area's Jake Taylor had to work a little bit longer to win a title at the Escape The Rock Tournament on Sunday at Council Rock South.
Taylor, ranked seventh nationally by Intermat, rode Norristown's Brett Harner, ranked fourth, out in the ultimate tiebreaker to claim the 182-pound title. Taylor hiked his record to 17-0.
Taylor was one of five placewinners for the Eagles, who finished seventh in the team standings with 129.5 points. Central Mountain finished 6.5 points behind BEA in eighth place with 122.5 points, and the Wildcats had five placers, including runner-up Caleb Stover at 285. Westmont Hilltop finished in 28th place.
Parkland won the team title by 17 points, 189.5-172.5, over Owen J. Roberts. Parkland won despite returning state champion and fifth-ranked nationally Ethan Lizak dropping a 3-1 decision to Delaware's fourth-ranked Brent Fleetwood in the 113-pound finals. It was the second straight year Fleetwood beat Lizak in the finals. Last year, Fleetwood won, 7-2.
