B. Joan Allison, 78, formerly of Clappertown, rural Williamsburg, went home to be with the Lord early Thursday morning at Homewood at Martinsburg after an extended illness.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Leona (Lott) Nichelson. She married T. Elroy Allison on Aug. 27, 1955, in Altoona, and he passed away May 17, 1993.
Surviving are eight children: Kevin (Gloria) of Havana, Fla., Todd, Jeffrey (Sharon), Mark (Linda) and Donna Gibson (Don), all of rural Williamsburg, Paula McCready (Homer) and Sharon Kensinger (Shawn), both of Martinsburg, and Susan McCracken (Charles) of Greenwood, Altoona; 20 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen; a grandson, Judah McCracken; a brother; and a sister.
Joan was a 1953 graduate of Altoona High School. Along with her husband, she assisted in the daily operation of their family dairy farm near Clappertown, Huston Township. She was a longtime active member of Clappertown CMA Church, rural Williamsburg, where she was a former Sunday school teacher and missionary foreman. She was a former member of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, a former member of Gideons International Auxiliary, Blair South Camp, since 1983, a former director and president of Royer Cemetery Association and a lifetime member of the Altoona Railroaders Memorial Museum.
Joan enjoyed crocheting, cooking, canning, writing poetry and in her later years, writing children's short stories.
There will be no viewing; however, friends will be received from 2 until the 3 p.m. funeral service Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Clappertown CMA Church, Pastor Paul R. Campbell officiating. Private interment will follow at Royer Cemetery, rural Williamsburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be given to Gideons International, Blair South Camp, P.O. Box 284, Martinsburg, PA 16662.
