Jean Wible, 82, Altoona, died early Monday at Altoona Regional.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Ray and Dorothy (Houck) Hurley. She married Donald R. Wible on Nov. 25, 1951, in Huntingdon.
Surviving are her husband of 61 years; four children: Steven Max and wife, Juniata, in Hong Kong, Donna Jean Cruse and husband, Drew, of Hollidaysburg, David Scott and wife, Ying-Ying, of Taipei, Taiwan, and Melissa Linn of Hollidaysburg; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Edmund "Bud" Hurley of Huntingdon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters: Rebecca Hurley, Joan "Jo" Corbin and Margaret "Peg" Haring; and a brother, James Hurley.
Jean graduated from Huntingdon High School and then from the Altoona Hospital School of Nursing, where she received the Bedside Nurse Award upon graduation. She was a dedicated homemaker and had also served as a registered nurse at Altoona Hospital and Hillview Nursing Home and in private-duty nursing. She was a member of the Altoona Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association.
From the time Jean gave her life to Christ as a young adult, she lived a full life of service, leading women's prayer groups, teaching Sunday school and providing after-school Bible classes to young people. She touched all those who knew her with her empathy, warmth and selfless compassion. Above all, she will be remembered for the joy she took in serving others.
She enjoyed puzzles and reading.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata, and 2 until the 3 p.m. funeral service Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Frankstown Road, Hollidaysburg, Pastor Mark R. Brown officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
