Trump supporters playing with future
Having proudly voted for Vice President Kamala Harris, I am beyond disappointed in the outcome of the presidential election.
Even more disappointing and disturbing is what supporting Donald Trump over three election cycles has revealed about the character of some of my friends, family and colleagues.
We are all sinners, so I won’t even mention Trump’s sins. But, we are not all, as Trump is, criminals, sexual predators, misogynists, racists, congenital liars, homophobes and tax cheats filled with endless grievances.
Therefore, it is difficult for me to reconcile how people that I have admired and respected could support and vote for such a person. Where is the line for this guy? What would he have to do for you not to support him? Inciting insurrection wasn’t enough? Stealing our military secrets wasn’t enough? Thirty-four felony convictions wasn’t enough?
Because these heinous acts were not sufficient for his supporters to abandon him, I am left to conclude that overtaken by selfishness, they too, share in at least some of Trump’s toxic views including extreme self-centeredness, hatred and greed. This conclusion makes me sad.
Support of Trump not only exposes fissures in one’s character, it threatens our democracy by undermining the rule of law. The prime example is that by voting for him this year, you handed him the one thing he most wanted — a Get Out of Jail Free Card. This is not a game or a game show; this is reality. Once again,
Trump supporters have chosen to play dice with our democracy and the future of our country. Let’s hope and pray this dangerous roll of the dice doesn’t come up Snake Eyes.
