Legislators do right by supporting PA bill
On behalf of all local physician assistants (PAs) and the citizens to whom PAs provide care, we would like to thank state Senator Judy Ward and state Representatives Louis Schmitt and Jim Gregory, as well as the representatives and senators from the surrounding counties, for joining their colleagues in Harrisburg in the unanimous support for the PA modernization bills (Acts 78 and 79).
These new laws will more appropriately allow physicians to define their relationships with PAs, eliminate unnecessary bureaucratic barriers, and permit PAs to practice for our patients more efficiently.
These acts will also give PAs a permanent seat on both Pennsylvania Medical Boards.
There are over 10,000 PAs in Pennsylvania. They are an integral component of the health care team and work in nearly every practice specialty and setting across the commonwealth.
Pennsylvania has the third highest number of PAs per capita and the second most PA training programs (24) in the United States.
The support of our legislators is appreciated in creating these laws that will increase access to high quality healthcare for our families, friends and neighbors.
These laws will ultimately make Pennsylvania a healthier state in which to live.
