Celebrate direct support professionals

National Direct Support Professionals Week is Sept. 12-18, 2021.

DSP stands for Direct Support Professional. These are the dedicated and invaluable people who support those with disabilities.

DSPs work tirelessly to provide physical, emotional, and professional support.

This support allows people to live in their own homes, hold competitive jobs, maintain social and religious affiliations and accomplish the daily tasks that we take for granted.

If you have a DSP supporting you or a loved one, please take the time to thank them for all that they do.

If you are an agency employing DSPs, please publicly celebrate them during this week.

If you are a DSP, please know that you are appreciated and vital to not only the health and well-being of the people you support, but also to keep our community inclusive and open to all.

This is a job that can be rigorous and draining. Your stamina and efforts are not taken for granted.

And now more than ever, due to the pandemic, we know how much we need caring and committed DSPs.

Direct support professionals are the often unrecognized and unsung heroes in the field of disability work.

During this week, please take the time and find a way to acknowledge DSPs at our local disability provider agencies.
