Vaccine not optional for health care staff

My father is a veteran at Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. Until recently, I have been overly impressed by the care he has received there.

They are great and I have been so very happy to know he is well cared for. However, we have just received word that his building is closed to visitors again because yet another staff member has tested positive for COVID-19.

In the last year and a half, I have only been able to see my father five times.

He suffers from dementia and doesn’t understand why we rarely come anymore. He and his fellow residents, as well as their families, are suffering.

I understand many people see vaccination as a personal choice/right.

Well, employees’ rights end when they cause unnecessary pain and suffering to others.

They have the choice to work elsewhere. My father does not have the choice to live elsewhere.

I feel it is unethical to work in a health care facility if people don’t care about the safety and mental health of their patients and their families.

If people want to work in the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, they should please get vaccinated.

Their choice to not vaccinate but continue working there is selfish.

I love my dad, I miss my dad, and I desperately want to be able to spend as much time with him as I can in these waning years.

Please get vaccinated.
