GOP in danger of losing moderates

Now that Rep. John Joyce and his colleagues within the Republican Party have removed Rep. Liz Cheney from her position in House leadership, what’s the plan?

How far to the right are they planning on going? Who is the next target on their Cancel Culture tour?

They have made it abundantly clear that even though Donald Trump lost the election last November, he is the GOP, even as he golfs at Mar-A-Lago.

As Republicans in Harrisburg and Washington continue to pander to the far right of the party, they are successfully driving moderate Republicans, like myself, away.

Mitt Romney was 100% spot on, “Expelling Liz Cheney from leadership won’t gain the GOP one additional voter, but it will cost us quite a few.”

Then again, he should tell that to Joyce and his niece, Ronna McDaniel, too. As if Jan. 6 wasn’t enough, this vote to remove Cheney further cemented my belief that voting for Joe Biden was the more reasonable choice between the two, last November.

When I spoke to a member of the Blair County GOP a few weeks ago, regarding the censuring of Sen. Pat Toomey, the person I spoke with indicated that neither the county or state Republican party had any intentions to bring moderate Republicans back into the fray.

They were going to continue appealing to the Marjorie Taylor Greenes of the party, which is fine I guess, if you didn’t lose the state by 80,555 votes.

This isn’t the party of Lincoln, or even Reagan, anymore. No, this is the party of Gaetz, QAnon and Trump.

So, if the Republican Party (or even the Libertarian or Democratic parties, at this point), at any point, feels compelled to appeal to the moderates who have been disregarded because the outliers are more appealing, let me know.

I can’t promise that I’ll have the deep pockets that many within the GOP at the federal, state, and local levels expect, but at least you’ll have my vote.
