Country desperately needs unity

My friends, are we being fooled by our politicians, institutions and the media?

Are we being pitted against one another?

For united we stand, divided we fall. And if our backs should ever be against the wall, we’ll be together, you and I.

Americans are some of the greatest people on earth. Please, let’s remember to respect and love one another. Let’s not make judgment on one another from simply hearing or reading something from someone we don’t know or truly know what their true intentions are.

How many of us have to turn off the news networks after just five minutes of hearing all the negativity and hateful rhetoric?

Can one even begin to imagine what our veterans are thinking — the blood, sweat, tears and death that they endured for our freedom and to create the greatest country for well over 200 years?

President Abraham Lincoln reminded us that the dead shall not have died in vain, that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

Where do we find leaders such as Lincoln, JFK, or Reagan?

What examples are our current leaders setting for our next generation? One might have thought with the current president leaving, this rhetoric would end. Just recently, our president-elect was comparing some of our senators to Nazis.

And now Congress is setting up impeachment for a president with less a week left in office. Is this going to unite America? Or will there be repercussions?

Let’s hope that on Jan. 6, we hit bottom.

My goodness, are they truly concerned that we are hurting enough already, trying to survive a pandemic? Do our highest elected officials know how serious our divided country is?

The stimulus bill they had just passed was months late.

In the meantime, our folks had to worry about putting food on their table, paying rent and utilities, and worried about their family’s health. Instead, our officials were too concerned about combining a COVID-19 relief bill with an additional $1.4 trillion bill (for their interest) that had nothing to do with COVID-19 relief.

Are the officials on a different hierarchy than its citizens? Is there agenda the same as its citizens? One has to ask, where are their priorities?

Folks, we the people need to stay united.
