Trump supporting range of vets’ options
In response to Wayne Witherow’s Oct. 5 letter, President Donald Trump signed into law the Mission Act on June 6, 2018, creating the Veterans Community Care Act,which provided a wider range of medical care options for veterans.
The Veterans Choice Program terminated on June 7, 2019.
Questions regarding eligibility for community care should be directed to your local VA facility. Fortunately, the Altoona VA hasn’t had the same issues other facilities have had.
Public Private Venture is privatized military housing. Service members have the choice of PPV or to use their housing allowance for the private sector to rent or own. The DOD entered into a partnership with Lincoln Property Company in 2001, creating Lincoln Military Housing, which operates and maintains U.S.-based housing.
At this time, the DOD operates all military housing in foreign locations and less than a dozen in the U.S.
The president’s 2021 budget does have a recommendation to make cuts to the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program, which replaced The Food Stamp Program in 2008, but they were not implemented.
