Politics don’t decide ticket to heaven

With no disrespect to the person who placed the one-page political ad citing scripture, my question is, “When, in America, did one’s political beliefs become a determinant of their spirituality or ability to enter the gates of heaven?”

As Americans — the beautiful kaleidoscope of color, politics and religious beliefs — we are endowed with the right to vote as we choose without harassment, demonization or judgment.

Many have suffered, bled and died to ensure we have this opportunity. Democrat, Republican, Independent — we are all Americans. We are all loved by God.

There are many scriptures I could quote — don’t judge, don’t condemn, treat others as you want to be treated. But, most of all, the great commandment is to love your neighbor as yourself like God loves you.

So, please, let us show respect for all other Americans regardless of their political views. We can disagree agreeably.
