‘Coward threatens only when he’s safe’
Like Kelly Leydig, whose letter appeared on Jan. 2, I too, received a letter in the mail the last time I wrote to express my opinion in this space.
As was the case with Leydig’s, the letter mailed to me was filled with threats, insults and name calling. I might add that said letter was unsigned.
Those of us who write the Altoona Mirror to express our opinions are required to sign our names, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
People may disagree with my opinions (I am a lifelong proud Democrat and lean toward liberal views on many issues) and that is their right, just as it is my right to express them.
However, if they feel the need to write me or anyone who chooses to express themselves in these pages, then they should have the backbone to sign their letters of disagreement.
These pieces of ghost correspondence will not stop me from speaking out when I feel it necessary to do so.
As Johann Wolfgang von Goethe observed, “The coward only threatens when he is safe.”
