Son of radio station owner treated unfairly

I just finished reading online the Mirror’s July 25 article regarding the sale of radio station WTRN in Tyrone.

It appears we have a judge in Blair County who has decided to suppress the free speech of the station’s original owner and founder’s son, Ted Simpson. If I have read the article correctly, the judge has told the son not to communicate any further with the FCC or post anything on social media about the sale of the station?

From a distance, I was disappointed to hear and read about the sale of WTRN since my dad, Wilbur F. Walk Jr., was the original program director for WTRN and was a dear friend of Cary Simpson.

For a small town like Tyrone, WTRN has been a crown jewel for the community I was born and raised in, for more than 50 years now.

Beyond the sentimental side of the sale, I find it incomprehensible that the sale was initiated without even a discussion with Simpson’s son, Ted.

While the law may have permitted that action, that’s certainly not the way Cary Simpson did business with the Tyrone community and if for no other reason than to respect Cary Simpson’s numerous contributions to the community of Tyrone, I would think that his son, who grew up in and around WTRN, should have at least been made aware of plans to sell the station.

I believe it’s called “professional” or “common courtesy.”

It’s one of those things that we try to teach to our children. Make no mistake about it: WTRN was Cary Simpson, and for someone to treat his son with total disregard is disappointing, if true, to say the least.

I would also think that a potential buyer, that I understand is as close as Claysburg, would want some type of harmony with the transition of WTRN to a new owner.

Recalling a personal conversation that I had with Cary Simpson a few years ago, finding local advertisements might be hard to come by if there is acrimony.

Perhaps the new owners don’t need it or want it?

Silencing the son of Cary Simpson seems rather harsh for the quaint little town of Tyrone and even for Blair County.

It makes me one wonder what the son knows or has to say that someone doesn’t want the public to hear.
