Get off your phone; watch for cycles, bikes

Well, it’s that time of year again when the people on bicycles and motorcycles will be out on the streets and highways.

Many of you seem to think that we are invisible. Speaking as a motorcyclist, I just don’t understand it. Most bikes weigh around 800 pounds, plus their driver and rider.

We have our headlights on (mine blink), we have running lights on, and many add extra lights so you cage drivers can see use more easily, but it just doesn’t seem to matter to you. I even got to the point of wearing a bright yellow safety vest while on the bike.

The number-one reason drivers don’t see us is that I believe they don’t want to see us and second, put down your cellphones.

A lot of you think that all motorcyclists just want to drink beer, do drugs and raise hell. This is far from the truth, although I am sure that there are some out there that do.

But that’s not the point. We have friends and family to go home to every day, and we pay taxes so we can use the streets and highways.

Our lives are worth more than a cellphone call from your friend, so wait until you are stopped to use your phone and pay more attention to others around you.
