Louis Kimmel “Kim” Buterbaugh, 80, of Bedford, passed away peacefully with his loving life partner, Betty Calhoun, by his side on Sunday. He was born in Williamsport, a son of the late Ernest and Nancy Mae (Hughes) Buterbaugh.

On Aug. 21, 1965, in Bedford, he married Barbara Sharon (Miller) Buterbaugh, who preceded him in death on July 22, 2019.

He is survived by three children: Chad Buterbaugh (Lynne) of Duncansville, Johanna Kelly (Chris) of Greer, S.C., and Jerrod Buterbaugh (Denise) of Raleigh, N.C.; six grandchildren: Chloe Hawk, Sarah Nestor (Luke), Patrick Kelly, Christopher Kelly, Sam Buterbaugh and Max Buterbaugh; two great-grandchildren; life partner, Betty Calhoun; two siblings, Owen Buterbaugh (Karen) of New Paris and Neal Buterbaugh (Linda) of Bedford; close niece, Paula Henry (Brian) of Johnstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kim was a 1962 graduate of Bedford High School and excelled at football, wrestling and track and field. He then received his bachelor’s in education from Florida State University in 1966.

He was a teacher and wrestling coach in Hackettstown, N.J., and later at Shippensburg High School. While at Shippensburg, Kim coached several wrestlers to compete at the state championship. Later, he became a State Farm Insurance agent in Duncansville and retired after 23 years.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fly fishing, especially his fishing trips to Canada with his father and extended family. He enjoyed reading, history and supporting Bedford High School athletics and music.

He was a longtime member and past president of the Blair Regional YMCA, Bedford United Methodist Church and sang in a worship band at Hollidaysburg United Methodist Church.

Friends will be received from 10:30 until the 11:30 a.m. memorial service Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024, in the Chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, Bedford.
