Blanche E. (McGunigal) Shylo
July 12, 1946 – Oct. 14, 2023
Blanche E. (McGunigal) Shylo, 77, of Hollidaysburg, succumbed to her 2.5-year battle with pancreatic cancer at home on Saturday surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Hollidaysburg, daughter of Harold R. and Erma I. (Burket) McGunigal.
On Oct. 19, 1968, she married John J. Shylo Jr. Blanche and John were one week shy of celebrating 55 wonderful years of marriage. John affectionately referred to his wife as ‘lovely’ Blanche. She was his world.
Blanche is survived by her husband; daughters, Tracy A. (Tim) Shylo-Long and Lisa L. (Dan) Wendle; grandchildren, Travis and Sarah (Caleb Gampe) Wendle and Sidney and Jack Long; and a sister, Mary Jane Lindsey.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Harry “Bill” and James McGunigal; and her sister, Shirley Ann Weir.
Blanche’s life revolved around her family. Her grandchildren were a huge part of her life and she cherished every moment with them. Blanche was a very giving person who was always doing for and thinking of others. Family and friends meant everything to her.
Blanche was not only a loving homemaker, but also worked at the Hollidaysburg Public Library for many years. She volunteered her time at Zion Lutheran Church and the libraries at the Hollidaysburg elementary schools. Most recently, during her illness, she was crocheting lap blankets for nursing home residents.
She will be sadly missed by her family, close friends and all who knew and loved her.
Services for Blanche will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Blanche’s name may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 500 Allegheny St., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648; or a favorite charity of your choice.
