Larry James Focht

July 3, 1948 – Oct. 2, 2022

Focht

Larry James Focht, 74, Altoona, was called home Sunday to be with the Lord and to hear, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” He was born in Altoona, son of the late James and Margaret (Bowman) Focht.

On July 8, 1966, Larry married the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Sandra Grum.

Larry lived his life for three things: his God, his family and his many hobbies. He was a Deacon, a van driver, sang in the choir and taught Sunday school for 46 years at Riggles Gap Bible Church. Larry loved nothing more than family get-togethers and spending time with his loved ones. He cherished the memories he made with his grandchildren, watching them grow and teaching them about life. Whether it was about faith, sports or other facets of life, Larry was always a leader, paving the way for his family and his community and leaving it better than when he found it.

He was the owner and operator of L.J. Focht’s Garage. He had a passion for building countless hotrods and custom cars for customers. As past president and vice president of the Kruisin Kompany Kar Klub, he was a big part of the local automotive community, building lasting friendships and sharing all of his knowledge with others.

Larry graduated from Altoona Area High School in 1966. After graduation, he began working for the railroad, working his way up to a supervisor position. He began his career with the railroad in 1968 and retired from Conrail in 1994.

In addition to his loving wife, Sandra, Larry is survived by two sons, Larry James “Jamie” Focht Jr. and Andrew Aaron Focht; a daughter, Leisa Gayle Kyle; five grandchildren: Robert, Cameron and Sean Kyle, Breyden Campbell and Margaret “Maggie” Focht; as well as six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Deborah J. Blazer; and his granddaughter, Mikayla D. Focht.

Family and friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, 2022, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., 108 Alto-Reste Park, Altoona; and again from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, Oct. 7, 2022, at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Yellow Springs Lutheran Cemetery.
