William Manning ‘Bill’ Sigmon III

May 8, 1950 – Aug. 5, 2022

William Manning “Bill” Sigmon III, 72, died early Friday morning, Aug. 5, 2022, at Haida Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Hastings. He was born in Charlotte, N.C., a son of the late William Manning Sigmon Jr. and Mary Louise (Only) Sigmon.

He married Jennie L. Stevens on June 28, 1981, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Altoona.

Surviving are his wife, Jennie; a son, William Andrew Sigmon of Martinsburg, W.Va.; a special friend, Evelye; and godson, Thor.

Bill was preceded in death by many aunts and uncles.

Mr. Sigmon was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Altoona, where he previously served on the Vestry and sang in the choir.

He was a graduate of Charlotte-Mecklenburg High School, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and the University of Georgia.

Bill retired as an instructor of Political Science at Saint Francis University and Penn State Altoona. He was also formerly employed at The Book Store in Altoona. Bill was featured in “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.”

He enjoyed reading, history, watching CNN, and was an avid sports fan following the Cincinnati, Cleveland and Atlanta baseball teams, and most especially the University of Georgia, “Georgia Bulldogs.”

A future Celebration of Life is planned to be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Altoona.
