Jeffrey L. Bowers
Feb. 28, 1951 – May 23, 2022
Jeffrey L. Bowers, 71, of Altoona, entered into Glory with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday evening at UPMC Altoona surrounded by his loving family and friends. Jeff suffered lung damage from a previous severe case of COVID-19 and then had a stroke, which led to organ failure.
He was born in Altoona, son of Theresa (Smeltzer) Bowers Gallagher and the late John G. “Jack” Bowers. Jeff was married to his soul-mate, Lorie (Forney) Bowers, who passed away in September of 2021.
Surviving are a son, Jake; his mother; and a sister, Judith (Dennis) Knox. Also surviving are special friends: John “Wink” Wilinski, Rick Church, Randy Cornelius, Vickie, Chet and Cory Axon; as well as dear cousins: Bill, Tom and Dave Patterson and their families; nieces: Kristin (Corey) Pincherri, Mallory (Justin) Petucci and Alex Wilinski and their families.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Sally (John) Wilinski.
Jeff loved listening to the late Rush Limbaugh and would never miss a broadcast. In his youth, he played football and was in Golden Gloves boxing, but his lifelong interest was following the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Jeff and Lorie loved having friends and family to their annual July 4th cook-outs, followed by viewing Lakemont fireworks.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Castaldo and the ICU nursing staff for their kind and wonderful care of Jeff, and the compassion and kindness shown to his family. Many additional thanks to our Altoona Bible Church family for their love and prayers throughout this time.
