Nadina M. Russell

Sept. 24, 1939 - Nov. 28, 2021

Nadina “Deanie” Mae Russell, 82, passed away in Grosse Pointe, Mich., surrounded by her family on Sunday. Deanie was born in Altoona to the Rev.William Wallace and Marguerite Breckbill. She grew up in Altoona, where she met Bill, who would stand beside her for nearly 70 years.

Deanie graduated from Altoona Hospital School of Nursing in 1960 and proudly served as a nurse for more than 50 years, beginning as an orthopedic nurse, progressing to senior hospital administration. Her love and passion for nursing continued into retirement working “for fun” as an elementary and middle school nurse.

Out of all her many accomplishments, she was most proud to be a “NaNa.” She is predeceased by her son, Michael. Surviving are her husband, Bill; son, Gregg (Brittany); grandchildren: Olivia, Ben and Charlotte; and her sister, Sandra Hollen (Yance).

Deanie and Bill just recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. During their many years together, their travel adventures took them from Europe to Japan and to all of the lower 48 states with their fifth-wheel camper. Their many experiences as campsite docents produced lasting friendships from around the country. Deanie’s quick wit and candid personality will be missed by all.

A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Jan. 9, 2022, at Faith United Methodist Church, 2403 Rayford Road, Spring, Tex. The family would also like to thank The Henry Ford Pulmonary Fibrosis and Interstitial Lung Disease Program for their help and caring over the past two years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Deanie’s name may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
