Kay F. Eckrote

June 3, 1942 – Nov. 22, 2021

Kay F Eckrote, 79, of Niles, Ohio, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born in Roaring Spring, the daughter of Veto and Mary (Kensinger) Sottile. She worked tirelessly to become a registered nurse, while raising a family, and worked as an RN at Youngstown Northside Hospital for 30 years before retiring.

Kay loved spending time with her family and serving her church and neighborhood. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Niles and frequently volunteered her time at Second Harvest Food Bank and the American Red Cross. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling, gardening, crocheting and bowling.

She will be deeply missed by those who survived her, which include, her brother and sister; nine children: Vicky Reed of Niles, Annette (Kin) Moy of Warren, Robert (Vicky) Reed of Niles, Linda (Denny Sr.) Shoemaker of Niles, Tina (Claude) Miller of Niles, Renee (Kenneth) Pallante of Howland, Michael (Joni) Eckrote in Michigan, Donald M. (Tracy) Eckrote of Mineral Ridge and Nancy Knowles in South Carolina; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, many of whom were lovingly referred to as “George.”

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, and loving husband Donald C. Eckrote.

The funeral will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021, at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home in Niles, where family and friends may call one hour prior to the service.
