Charles ‘Chuck’ T. John

Charles “Chuck” T. John, 66, of Cresson, passed away Thursday at UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh. He was born in Worcester, Mass., son of the late Theodore K. and Rita A. (Tasi) John. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Donald Scanlon; and sister-in-law, Katherine Hook.

Surviving are his loving wife, Judith M. (Scanlon); sister, Elizabeth Jezierski and husband, David, in Connecticut; mother-in-law, Anna Scanlon in Connecticut; brothers-in-law, Jack Hook in Ohio and James Scanlon in Connecticut; sister-in-law, Janet Scanlon in Massachusetts; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Charles was united in marriage with Judy for 34 years. They had nine German Shepherds throughout those years that they shared their home with. Chuck was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in Desert Storm. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corps, earning the rank of First Sergeant. Chuck also retired as a corrections officer from SCI Houtzdale.

He was an avid cycler and was a highly proficient sharpshooter. Chuck was a member of the Sankertown VFW, Military Funeral Honor Guard, and the Central PA Prayer Group. He also enjoyed participating in the bowling league at Holliday Bowl, Altoona.

At the request of the family, a funeral Mass was held privately on Monday, Oct. 18, 2021, at St. Francis Xavier Church, with Father Leo Arnone, celebrant. Burial was at St. Francis Xavier Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to All Saints Catholic School, Cresson; Tunnel To Towers, t2t.org; or for Catholic Masses.
