Ronald E. “Ron” Long, 84, Hollidaysburg, went to be with the Lord Sunday morning at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Altoona, a son of the late C. Edward and Grace H. (Nothnagle) Long. On Nov. 20, 1959, at Trinity United Church of Christ in Altoona, he married Shirley J. Helsel.

Surviving are his wife of almost 62 years, Shirley; a sister, Ann Harr and her husband, Terry, of Claysburg; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Homer; two sisters, Jean Pruyn and Peggy Brubaker; and a nephew, Todd Long.

Ron was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg, and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Altoona for many years prior. He served on various Grace church committees and was also a member of the choir for many years.

He graduated from Altoona High School in 1954, and worked at the PennDOT District Office in Hollidaysburg. He retired as a permit supervisor on Oct. 5, 1995, after 30 years.

Ron was an avid fan of Penn State athletics and the Pittsburgh Steelers. For many years, he enjoyed traveling extensively, camping and spending winters in Florida. He also enjoyed reading his Bible every day and doing word search puzzles.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the 4 p.m. funeral service Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2021, at First United Methodist Church, 801 Allegheny St., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648, with Pastor John Godissart, officiating. Interment will be made at Alto-Reste Park.
