Richard E. Sessamen

July 14, 1938 – July 22, 2021

Richard E. Sessamen, 83, Warriors Mark, passed away Thursday at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Altoona, son of Scott E. Sessamen and Martha L. White.

On July 11, 1963, in Winchester, Md., he married Karen Dell, who survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children: Steven K. and wife Sherry of Fredericksburg, Va.; Ronald A. and wife Kathy of St. John, New Brunswick; Richard S. and wife Annie of Spruce Creek; and Kimberly S. and husband, Bill Wiser of Tyrone; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Joanne Scordo.

Richard was a graduate of Tyrone Area High School. He served in the Army National Guard from 1959-65 in the Armored Calvary, Tyrone and retired from Westvaco Corporation, Tyrone, following 43 years of service.

He was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church, Tyrone, and recently began attending Halfmoon Christian Fellowship Church. He was a member of the Bald Eagle Sportsman Association, Cartwright Hunting Club, Tyrone Sportsmen’s Association, and an avid hunter and fisherman. He coached YMCA wrestling and was a referee, coached baseball and umpired. Richard enjoyed gardening, spending time with his family, and attending high school football games.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 26, 2021, at Halfmoon Christian Fellowship Church with Pastor Clayton Kessling and the Rev. Charles Swenson officiating. Interment will follow in Bald Eagle Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the church from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 25, 2021; and from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Monday, July 26, 2021.
