Crownover

Russell L. Crownover, 91, a resident of The Village at Morrisons Cove, formerly of Williamsburg, passed away Thursday morning at The Village. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Blair Irvin and Anna P. (Moore) Crownover.

Russell was twice married, first to Elma L. Roub, who passed away May 3, 2011, and then to Sandy K. Brantner, who died April 27, 2019.

Surviving are two daughters, Denise M. Sutton of Leesburg, Fla., and Renee E. Wilson (Stephen) of Bedford; three sons: Randall A. Crownover of Furlong, Keith R. Crownover (Lori) of Hollidaysburg and Darren W. Crownover (Kelly) of Coupeville, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great granddaughter; and a brother, Gary I. Crownover of Altoona.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda S. Hoover; and a sister, Margaret A. “Peggy” King.

Russell was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, attaining the rank of corporal. He attended Living Water Family Worship in Williamsburg and was a former member of the Williamsburg Lions Club.

He worked most of his life as a meat cutter/butcher at his family’s grocery store, Crownover’s Market in Williamsburg. Russell loved his job and simply enjoyed talking to people. His work was his passion, and he instilled this strong work ethic in all his children.

Friends will be received from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 14, 2021, at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg; and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at the funeral home, with Pastor Robby J. Kagarise officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at Salem Reform Church Cemetery, rural Martinsburg.
