James D. ‘Jim’ Parson Jr.

July 14, 1965 – May 20, 2021

James D. “Jim” Parson Jr., 55, Tyrone, passed away unexpectedly May 20, 2021, at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Altoona, the son of James D. Sr. and Bonita L. (Smith) Parson.

He married Jamie J. Hawes on Nov. 24, 1990, in Altoona.

Surviving are his wife; daughters: Jessica Lynn (Parson) Hertzler and Marquie Jenelle (Parson) Watson; sons: Christopher Allen Cowfer, Jerame David Parson and Cameron James Parson; a brother, Brian Parson; a sister, Vicki L. Sunderland; 11 grandchildren; and his mother.

Jim was preceded in death by his father.

He graduated from Bellwood-Antis High School in 1983. After graduation, he enrolled in the Army National Guard and served for six years. He was employed by the Bellwood Borough in maintenance for 18 years.

Jim took an interest in racing and was involved in many Enduro races until 1995 when he started racing limited late model cars. That same year his son, Jerame, was born, leading him to use the number 95 for his car number. Jim had several feature wins and his family was there to support and cheer him on. He was passionate about racing. Even when he was no longer racing, he would be at local tracks supporting fellow racers with his sidekick, his youngest son, Cameron.

Jim was a thoughtful man with a big heart who loved having family get-togethers, bonfires and being with his grandchildren who brought him joy. He loved them very much.

There will never be enough words to express how much he meant to his family whom he loved, or how much he enjoyed life. He will be deeply missed.

Friends will be received from 10 until the 11 a.m. memorial service Saturday, June 12, 2021, at Hillside Community Church, Bellwood, Pastor John Poe officiating.

Arrangements are by Anthony P. Scaglione Funeral Home, 1908 Seventh Ave., Altoona.
