David Eugene Kurtz
Feb. 14, 1964 – June 21, 2021
David Eugene Kurtz, 57, Roaring Spring, passed Monday evening at his home in Roaring Spring surrounded by his family and loved ones. He battled esophageal cancer for four and a half years after he was given one year.
He was born in Roaring Spring, the son of Eugene D. and Deanna (Croft) Kurtz.
Surviving are his wife, Rachel Rininger, whom he married on May 10, 2008, in Las Vegas; his children: Andrew Kurtz (Emily), Alivea Kurtz, Justin Nesius (Amber), Ashlea Nesius and Shyanne Weyandt; grandchildren: Arianna, Lincoln, Jackson, Jovi, Dawson and Zayveon; a sister, Sharon J. Snider (Bob); and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
David was preceded in death by his sister, Kristina (1974); and his father, Eugene (2020).
He was a 1982 graduate of Central High School.
Dave began employment at Smith Transport and served 35 years.
He loved to be outdoors in his life. He explored nature around him by hiking, hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. He loved to run, and raced in multiple charity runs and marathons.
Dave was committed to his community. He was a member of the Bare Memorial Church of God in Roaring Spring where he played banjo in the church band, served as president of the Green Lawn Cemetery Committee and was a member of Roaring Spring Historical Society. Dave was an active member of the Sons of the American Legion, Woodbury Lodge No. 539 F&AM, Mount Moriah Royal Arch Chapter No. 166 and Mountain Commandery No. 10 Knights Templar.
He was studying to be an amateur radio operator. His goal was to teach his grandchildren about HAM and amateur radio. David was passionate about serving his community and the people around him.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 24, 2021, at Bare Memorial Church of God where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2021, by Pastor Steve Dibiase. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dave’s memory may be given to Roaring Spring Greenlawn Cemetery Committee, 716 Locust St., Roaring Spring, PA 16673; and/or Bare Memorial Church of God, 508 East Main St., Roaring Spring, PA 16673.
