Bessie E. (Stauffer) Wicker, 80, of Altoona, passed away Friday at UPMC Altoona. She was born in Rosebud, daughter of the late Rev. Uri Hayes and Katherine Elizabeth (Opdenhoff) Stauffer. She married Lorentz E. Wicker in 1958, who preceded her in death in 2008.
She is survived by two daughters: Sondra J. Wicker-Gerlach and her husband, Lorentz and Sharon J.; two sons: Terry N. and Daryl Z., all of Altoona; four grandsons: Lorentz Jr. (Jess), Loren (Rebecca), Lones, and Lance; 11 great-grandchildren: Lily, Luke, Luna Belle, Leeon, Liam, Haylee, Lorentz III, Loren Jr., Lones Jr., Alyssa and Kiersten; three sisters: Ruth, Nina and Donna Rose (Bill); two brothers: Russell and Bill (Peggy); and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by an infant son.
Bessie loved babysitting her grandchildren and running her produce stand. She was a very loving and caring person, and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Friends will be received from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 2021, at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will immediately follow with Pastor Richard Maher officiating.
Interment at Utahville Cemetery.
