Garry L. ‘Gomer’ Phillips

June 21, 1958 - Nov. 29, 2020

Garry L. “Gomer” Phillips, 62, of East Freedom, went home to be with the Lord Sunday morning at Conemaugh Nason Medical Center. He was born in Roaring Spring, son of Mary (Feathers) Phillips and the late Blair J. Phillips.

He is survived by his mother of East Freedom; two sisters, Doris Phillips of East Freedom and Deb Lear and her husband, Alvin “Leroy,” of Bakers Summit; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leroy Phillips and an infant brother, Barry Phillips.

Garry was a member of Smith Corner Independent Mennonite Church.

He was a 1975 graduate of Central High School and was employed at Orchard Lane Excavating for many years.

Garry served in the Pennsylvania National Guard and was a member of the Duncansville V.F.W.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family.

Due to COVID-19 limitations, there will be no viewing, but friends will be received from noon until the 2 p.m. funeral service Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020, at the Smith Corner Independent Mennonite Church, Pastor Dave McClanahan officiating. Interment will be made in Claysburg Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Garry’s memory may be given to the Smith Corner Independent Mennonite Church, 1955 Johnstown Road, East Freedom, PA 16637; or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
