Dorothy J. Sagaities

Dorothy J. Sagaities, 96, Hollidaysburg, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon at UPMC Altoona, surrounded by her family.

Dorothy was born in Altoona, the daughter of the late Sigmund and Rose E. (Pokorny) Jorkasky. She married Alex J. Sagaities on Oct. 24, 1942, at SS Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church in Altoona. He preceded her in death on Sept. 9, 1988.

Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Keppler (Robert) of Duncansville; a son, Alex J. Sagaities III (Donna) of Altoona; grandchildren, Christine Keppler of Orlando, Fla., Shonna Freet of Altoona, Jessica (Thad) Comer of Harrison City, Heather (Doug) Perry of Hollidaysburg, Tyler (Lizzy) Sagaities of Hollidaysburg; great-grandchildren, Josie, Bennett, Laurel and Landon; a sister, Phyllis (Tony) Maniglia of Carney Point, N.J.; and a daughter-in-law, Julie Sagaities of Hollidaysburg.

She was also preceded in death by her son, William M.; four sisters, Therese McClain, Patricia Wertner, Marie O’Leary and Helen Benton; and a brother, Eugene.

She was a secretary, employed by Altoona Hospital, retiring on Dec. 29, 1989. She served as yeoman third class in the Navy during World War II from Sept. 6, 1944, to Dec. 14, 1945.

Dorothy was an avid reader, and enjoyed gardening.

Dorothy was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Hollidaysburg.

Visitation will be private. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 301 Spruce St., Hollidaysburg, Pa., with Father Alan Thomas officiating. (COVID-19 social distancing and masks are required).

Committal will be at SS Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to Hollidaysburg Public Library, 1 Furnace Drive, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648. Arrangements are by Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., Altoona, Pa.
