Clayton Allen Mattern Jr.

Clayton Allen Mattern Jr., 48, Butler Lane, James Creek, passed away Sunday at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Roaring Spring, a son of Clayton Allen Mattern Sr. of Etters and Barbara E. (Berkey) Mattern of Roaring Spring. On July 5, 2012, in Huntingdon, he was united in marriage to his life companion of 25 years, Patti A. (Johnston) Mattern.
Along with his parents and wife, he is survived by a stepson, Eric Johnston and significant other, Nichole (Shope); granddaughter, Peyton Johnston; four sisters, Briana Mattern of Ocean City, Md., Diana Stiffler of Clearville, Dana Mattern of New Port Ritchey, Fla., and Christina Fields of Oldsmar, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents John H. and Betty Berkey; and paternal grandparents Clayton James and Anna Elizabeth “Betty” Mattern.
Allen was employed at Appvion in Roaring Spring. He was a graduate of Central High School Class of 1990. He enjoyed the outdoor life, hunting, fishing, biking, canoeing and kayaking.
He enjoyed spending time with friends and family and four wheeling with his Toyota trucks. Allen had a love for animals, especially his Charlie, Abby and Sierra Sue.
Friends and family may call from 11:30 a.m. until the 2 p.m. service Friday,
Sept. 18, 2020, at the Woodcock Valley Bible Church, 16412 Raystown Road, James Creek, PA 16657. Pastor Barry Yingling will officiate. We ask that those in attendance follow CDC guidelines by wearing a mask and following social distancing.
Burial will be held privately at Russellville Methodist Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Akers Funeral Chapel, 715 Church St., Saxton.
