Susan May ‘Susie’ Socie-Dodson

Aug. 4, 1943 - July 28, 2020

Susan May “Susie” Socie-Dodson, 76, Claysburg, passed away Tuesday with family by her side. She was born to the late Gerald and Marjorie (McManus) Snowden.

Susan attended Frankstown School and went on to become a licensed dietitian. She married the late Andrew O. Socie in 1957 and together, they had four children.

Susan was the Head Dietitian for the Presbyterian Home in Hollidaysburg for 14 years. She then went on to retire from the Claysburg-Kimmel School District as their Food Service Coordinator.

Susan is survived by her husband, Donald D. “Jake” Dodson; four children: Susan Socie of Altoona, Debra (Gary) Noel, of East Freedom, Andrew (LeAnn) Socie, of McVeytown and David (Karen) Socie of Hollidaysburg; five siblings: Sharon (Denny) Vaughn, Sandy Hileman, Sara Delozier, Ronald (Joyce) McManus and Steve Snowden; grandchildren, who referred to her as “Granny:” Donna May Boslet, Michelle Merrill, Nikki Shaffer, Gary Noel, Lindsey Oakley, Leah, Lindsay and Joshua (Destiny) Frederick; great-grandchildren: Cody and Madison Merrill, Gavin Boslet, Colin, Andrea and Conner Shaffer, Andrew Oakley and Max Frederick; and a host of other family members.

She was preceded in death by siblings: Sally, Mikey and Sylvia Snowden; and a step-son Tom Dodson.

Susie was well known and loved by many in the community. Family and friends agree she made the best macaroni salad, baked mac and cheese and pumpkin pies. She enjoyed watching “Jeopardy,” playing bingo, cards, traveling to Rocky Gap Casino and spending time with her great-grandson, Gavin. She will be greatly missed by all.

There will be a closed, private service for immediate family from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2020, at Leslie Miller Funeral Home, Claysburg. During this time, friends and extended family are welcome to drive by to pay their respect with a wave or a honk.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Susie may be given to St. Patrick’s School, 731 Patrick Lane, Newry, PA 16665.
