Thomas E. ‘Tom’ Gill
July 3, 1941 – June 26, 2020
Thomas E. “Tom” Gill, 78, Altoona, died unexpectedly Friday at UMPC Altoona after an automobile accident.
He was born in Altoona, son of George Gill and Ruth Stiver. On Aug. 20, 1960, he married Mary Ann Price in Tyrone.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann, of Altoona; a daughter, Cheryl Harpster and husband, Robert; two sons: Robert Gill and wife, Carla, and Richard Gill; two sisters: Ruth Ann McKinney and Sondra Hazenstab; six grandchildren: Tommy, Sarah, Christopher, Jessica, Jaley and Douglas; and two great-grandchildren: Avery and Emerson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Richard.
Tom was the owner of Gill’s Excavating and Gill’s Used Cars, Altoona, and also team owner of Gill’s racing car number 55 for many years. He also worked at the Bedford Speedway for several years, as well as Heston Speedway. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Altoona.
He was an avid racing and NASCAR fan.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at Anthony P. Scaglione Funeral Home. A private funeral service will be held by the family. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park.
