Alice E. “Betty” (Hoover) Magill, 97, Duncansville, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 16, 2020, at her residence, surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born at home in Duncansville, daughter of the late Harry and Olive (Wilt) Hoover. On Sept. 30, 1940, she married Raymond “Barney” Magill. He preceded her in death on April 1, 2002.

Surviving are two children: a daughter, Becky Shoop (Ken) of Hollidaysburg; and son, Mark (Amy) of Denver, Colo.; a special daughter-in-law, Nancy (Dubbs) Magill of Mentor, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Walters; a son, William “Bill” Magill; a sister, Joyce Brawley; a brother, Fred Hoover; a granddaughter and a grandson.

She was a 1940 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and retired from Altoona Hospital. She was a lifelong member of Hicks United Methodist Church, Duncansville, where she was a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years.

Betty was a very special person who loved her Lord and Savior and professed that love and devotion to everyone with whom she spoke. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend who loved her family and friends beyond measure. She had many stories from her past and loved telling them to anyone who would listen. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no visitation, and a memorial service will be held at a later date, which will be announced in the Mirror.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Hicks United Methodist Church, 1211 Third Ave., Duncansville, PA 16635 would be appreciated.
