Ernest ‘Ray’ Kephart
Feb. 6, 1932 – March 23, 2020
Ernest “Ray” Kephart, 88, Gallitzin, died Monday at his home.
He was born in Coalport, son of the late Ernest W. and Beatrice (Maines) Kephart.
Surviving are eight daughters: Patty (Jim) Derosa, Mary Ellen Urbanek, Ann Graeff, Denise (Ken) Hite, Theresa (Joe) Remacle, Linda (Russ) Bruce, Susan (Gene) Ratay and Diane (Rob) Warren; 24 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Shirley (John) Kilby.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Theresa Healy, on Dec. 6, 2013; a daughter, Jeanne, on Feb. 17, 2020; three sons: Joseph, on Aug. 9, 1980, Ernest “Ray,” on Nov. 6, 1994 and Michael, on March 26, 2006; and two brothers: Fred and Eugene.
He was a member of St. Demetrius Catholic Church, Gallitzin.
Ray enjoyed spending time with his family and his favorite granddog, Biscuit, going to family dinners, long walks in the woods, sunny days, watching birds in his feeder, digging for bottles and ramps, berry picking, canning, Sudoku puzzles, hunting, gardening, watching sports, playing horseshoes, writing anecdotes and listening to his favorite band, Full Kilt.
All services will be private due to the public health concerns of COVID-19. Committal will be at St. Patrick Cemetery. Arrangements are by Gibbons Funeral Home, 301 Church St., Gallitzin.
