Peggy G. (Myers) Steele

Peggy G. (Myers) Steele, 89, Roaring Spring, died Tuesday morning at UPMC, following a brief illness.

She was born in Roaring Spring, daughter of the late Orville and Margaret (Blattenberger) Myers. On Oct. 12, 1951, she married Donald E. Steele and he died Aug. 23, 2016.

She is survived by five children: Shelly Clapper of Roaring Spring, D. Mark Steele and wife, Linda, of Roaring Spring, Keith Steele and wife, Laura, of Damascus, Md., Drew Steele of Roaring Spring, and Tracy Steele of Roaring Spring; three grandchildren: Matthew (Lisa), Darian and Alexa; two great-grandchildren: Aidan and Alyssa; a sister, Lois Anne Glass of Harrisburg; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Vance; and a sister, Opal Bowers.

Peggy was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Roaring Spring. She was a 1948 graduate of Roaring Spring High School and a graduate of the Altoona School of Nursing. She retired from Nason Hospital in 1991 where she had worked as an licensed practical nurse for over 20 years. She had also worked at Pop Hite’s Drug Store in Roaring Spring.

Peggy had also done volunteer work and traveled with the American Red Cross for over 5 years and had also volunteered in the Outpatient Department at Nason Hospital.

She was a full time mother and homemaker and enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, tennis, marching bands, sewing, knitting, making flags and making clothes, music, and playing the piano. She had previously been a member of the Roaring Spring Junior Women’s Club.

Friends will be received from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service on Friday, Jan.. 24, 2020, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Roaring Spring, the Rev. Kevin Locker officiating. Interment will be made in Greenlawn Cemetery. Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring.

Contributions in Peggy’s memory may be given to the Roaring Spring Food Bank or the Roaring Spring Community Library.
