Lois M. Heininger

May 6, 1918 – Jan. 10, 2020

Lois M. Heininger, 101, a resident of the Presbyterian Home at Hollidaysburg, passed away Friday evening at the home.

She was born in Hollidaysburg, daughter of the late Joseph B and Harriet (Ross) Metzler. On June 20, 1960, she married Joseph F. Heininger in Hollidaysburg. He preceded her in death on May 1, 1985.

Surviving are five nephews: Philip R. Erb (Wanda) of Yardley, Bruce R. Erb (Cathy) and Paul R. Erb (Sharon), both of Hollidaysburg, Joseph Metzler III and Brian Metzler, both of San Francisco; and a sister-in-law, Patricia Metzler of Portsmouth, Va.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph B. Metzler Jr.; and a sister, C. Jean Erb.

Lois was a 1935 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1949 and a master’s degree in education in 1953 from Penn State. She taught Business Education at Altoona High School for 32 years. She was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, Hollidaysburg, where she was a member of Stitch and Sew and SOLO, a widows’ group. She was a former member of AAUW, treasurer of Penn State Alumnae Association and secretary of the board of the Hollidaysburg Alumni. She was a life member of the NEA, PSEA and Blair County Teachers. She was proud to have earned a bronze medal from the Arthur Murray School of Dance.

Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020, at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020, at Zion Lutheran Church at the intersection of Allegheny and Union Streets, Hollidaysburg, by Pastors David Bowman and Sharon Erb. Interment will be in Presbyterian Cemetery, Hollidaysburg.

The family requests that donations be made in Lois’s memory to the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library, 1 Furnace Road, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
