The Rev. Kenneth Charles LaPan, TOR, 97, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2019, at Garvey Manor Nursing Home – Our Lady of the Alleghenies Residence, Hollidaysburg.
He was born April 2, 1922, the child of Clarence and Helen (Meaghan) LaPan.
He entered the Franciscans of the Third Order Regular, Province of the Immaculate Conception, USA, in March 1946, and professed his vows on Sept. 6, 1947. After completing his studies at the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C., he was ordained a priest on June 9, 1952. In the course of his 73 years of Franciscan vowed life, Father Kenneth served the Church and the Franciscan community in parochial work in many parishes including, St. Anthony of Padua Church, Windber, as Parochial Vicar; several parish in the Diocese of St. Cloud, Minn., as Pastor; and as Chaplain and Instructor on the Motherhouse Campus of the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls, Minn. He retired from active ministry in 1984 and entered into a Ministry of Prayer at St. Bernardine Monastery, Hollidaysburg. Father Kenneth had great devotion to St. Anthony of Padua.
Surviving are his Franciscan Community; and a nephew, Joseph Lavorando. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Ellen Lavorando.
Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019, at St. Bernardine Monastery, where a vigil service will be held at 6:45 p.m. A funeral Mass will be concelebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019, at the Monastery, the Very Rev. Father Frank Scornaienchi, TOR, Minister Provincial, as main celebrant, along with the members of the Third Order Regular Franciscan Community. Committal and a luncheon will follow at the Franciscan Friars’ Community Cemetery, St. Bernardine Monastery. Arrangements are by Santella Funeral Home.
