Wilbur Lee Walk Sr.

Wilbur Lee Walk Sr. 76, Altoona, passed away Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019, at his home surrounded by loving family and friends.
He was born in Altoona, the son of the late Wilbur Walk and Jacqueline A. (White) Walk. On Nov. 5, 1966, he married R. Lucille “Lucy” (Boyles) Walk in Bellwood.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Lucy; two sons: Wilbur L. Walk Jr. and wife, Denise, and Robert A. Walk and wife, Priscilla; two beautiful granddaughters: Judith M. and Alyvia D. Walk; three sisters-in-law: Louise Beck, Pat Bush and Roxanne (Jay) Miller, all of Bellwood; his aunt, Helen Walk of Bellwood; a special friend, Steve Cooney and family; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and his furry friends: Rylee and Sneakers.
Along with his parents, Wilbur was preceded in death by his sister, Judith A. Walk; and favorite uncle, Will “Widge” Walk.
Since the third grade, Wilbur lived in Garden Heights and still maintained friendships with childhood friends Dick Harris and Bob Miller.
He graduated from Altoona High School, after which he joined the U.S. Army. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a Specialist 4. He received the Department of Army Commendation Medal for Heroism.
Wilbur retired with 38 years of service from Fonda/Westvaco, Williamsburg. Upon retirement he enjoyed day hiking, fishing, bowling, NASCAR, Penn State and Steelers football, and ham radio. His favorite pasttime was woodworking, making furniture, lawn ornaments and toys for family and friends. He especially loved doing projects, blowing bubbles and playing games with his “Pickle,” Judith.
A funeral service for Wilbur will be held at
11 a.m. today, Oct. 10, 2019, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Wilbur’s name may be made to either Mending Hearts or the Humane Society.
