Daniel J. Lioy Jr.

June 8, 1937 – Oct. 6, 2019


Daniel J. Lioy Jr., 82, Altoona, passed away Sunday at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Daniel J. and Rosie (Spinazzola) Lioy. On Jan. 22, 1966, he married Vera Pross.

Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years; a daughter, Kim Nakach; two grandchildren: Ashley (Jordan) McGowan and Abigail Nakach; a great-granddaughter, Wrennley Jo; and a brother, Joseph (Anne) Lioy of Tyrone.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Tom, Gene and John Lioy; and a sister, Nettie Freed.

Daniel was a 1956 graduate of Altoona High School and later worked at Sylvania, Zimmerman’s Electronics, Walmart and the Bavarian Aid Society, where he was a bartender for many years. He served in the U.S. Army as a Specialist 4 and served in Arlington National Cemetery on funeral details in the Honor Guard.

He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. He was also a member of the San Donato Club and the Bavarian Aid Society.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2019, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery with full military honors.
