Veronica ‘Verna’ Bakale

Veronica “Verna” Bakale, 83, Dysart RD, died Monday at UPMC Altoona.

She was born in Dysart RD, daughter of the late Martin and Mary (Markovich) Bakale.

Surviving are three sisters: Alice Corsini of Anaheim, Calif., Dorothy Pino of Livonia, Mich., and Tillie Bakale of Cresson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by 12 siblings: Katherine Chulick, Matthew, infants Peter and Sylvia, Rose Delsander, Carol Fiorentin, Robert, Anna Ballas, Barbara Innocenti, Betty Wills, Joseph and Mary Kolat.

She retired from Butterick Co. Inc., Altoona, after many years of service.

Verna was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Dysart, and enjoyed attending and working the church’s picnics for over 60 years. She was also a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union of America, Lodge 79, Patton Senior Citizens and she volunteered at the Patton Food Bank.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2019, at Gibbons Funeral Home, 1688 Liberty St., Ashville, where a vigil service will be held Friday. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019, at St. Monica’s Catholic Church, Chest Springs, the Rev. David Rizzo celebrant. Committal will be at St. Augustine Catholic Church Cemetery, Dysart.
