Jon Mark McTavish

Aug. 21, 1949 – Sept. 20, 2019

Jon Mark McTavish, 70, Gallitzin, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Friday after an extended illness.

Jon was born in Tunnelhill, son of Francis and Kathleen (Carrig) McTavish.

Surviving are his loving wife, Carole, his high school sweetheart whom he married on Aug. 29, 1970, at St. Joseph’s Church in Coupon; three daughters: Lori (Don) Layo of Cresson, Lisa (Clayton) Spencer of Coupon and Sara (Jason) Davis of Roswell, Ga.; six grandchildren: Tylor, Liam, Jonathan, Nora, Taylor and Nyles; a brother, Tom (Cynthia); a sister Cindy; three sisters-in-law: Linda, Patricia and Darlene; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved son, Ian; and brothers: Francis, Raymond, Charlie, Ronnie and Larry.

He was a 1968 graduate of Penn Cambria High School and a 1970 graduate of Williamsport Area Community College where he studied machining. He worked in the machine shops at Conrail and Norfolk Southern for more than 30 years before retiring in 2005.

Jon was a loving and devoted husband and father who dedicated his life to his family. His greatest joy was spending time at home with those he loved. He spent countless hours talking, telling stories and laughing with his wife, children and grandchildren. He also loved hunting and fishing, being outdoors, reading, woodworking and cooking.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2019, at St. Demetrius Church, Gallitzin, followed immediately by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Committal will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
