Penny Jean (Burket) Beck

Feb. 19, 1960 - May 8, 2019

Penny J. Beck, 59, Altoona, formerly of Roaring Spring, passed away unexpectedly early Tuesday morning at UPMC Altoona.

She was born in Roaring Spring, daughter of the late Carl G. and A. JoAnn (Oakes) Burket.

Surviving are her loving partner, Terry Brown of Altoona; three children: Stacy (Eric) Cornelius of James Creek, Justin (Lovella) Detterline in Saudi Arabia and Tyler G. Beck of Roaring Spring; five grandchildren: Parker Cornelius, Ellie Grace Cornelius, Lyndy Duke, Jack Duke and Juliette Detterline, along with one grandson on the way; six siblings: Joseph Burket in Wisconsin, Chris Burket in North Carolina, Trudy Rutkowski of Pittsburgh, Diane Brumbaugh of Curryville, Polly Burket in Arizona and Molly Shirk of Loysburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Penny was a 1978 graduate of Northern Bedford High School. She was employed by General Cable for many years before their closing and went on to continue her education, graduating with honors in 2018 from South Hills Business School, with a specialized associate degree in administrative medical assistant.

Penny loved the outdoors. She loved walking and traveling to various locations to enjoy nature. She really enjoyed the adventure of exploring new places that she’d never seen before. She was also very fond of reading, puzzles and word finds.

The immediate family will hold a private viewing at Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring. Friends will be received for a graveside memorial service at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday,

May 15, 2019, at Greenlawn Cemetery, Roaring Spring, Pastor Suzanne Detterline officiating.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in Penny’s memory may be made to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
